Manzanita SEED opened its doors in 2005 to serve students in grades K-5 in the neighborhood of San Antonio/Fruitvale in Oakland. Our school offers dual immersion education in Spanish and English to all of its students. We provide a safe and healthy environment where each student can achieve high levels of academic proficiency in both languages and develop deep cross-cultural understanding. This extends to extracurricular subjects: all students in all grades participate in music and PE classes that are taught in Spanish.
Manzanita SEED provides a true representation of our diverse Oakland community. This rich cultural mosaic provides students with abundant opportunities to appreciate both their own heritage and that of their friends and neighbors. We host a number of community activities throughout the year, and there is a variety of opportunities for parents to be involved in the school - from being a classroom parent to joining a planning committee to helping us raise funds. We also maintain a community bulletin board and offer on-campus fitness classes that parents can attend.
In addition to high academic standards, we prepare our students to be good citizens of their current and future communities. Our school's values are an integral part of the curriculum, with the upper grades participating in monthly service learning rotations.
